For the past two seasons we have seen a first class keeper in Ross Fitzsimmons.
His all round ability as a keeper makes him one of the best I have seen in my 50 years of support.
Handling.
Shot stopping.
Corners.
Command of the box.
Bravery.
DistributionAll excellent but above all he had what all good keepers require and that is a presence which puts the opposition off and instills confidence in his defence.
It is no secret that keepers mature with age and it’s experience we desperately need.
By and large the summer signings on paper look good, hopefully that will transpire onto the pitch.
An experienced keeper is definitely needed to underpin the side and create that strong spine which all good teams have. Ross was our biggest loss in the close season and thus far has not been replaced.

July 4, 2025 at 11:27 am #306411Totally agree .. Fitz leaving was certainly a big negative … in fact the loss of Ross may turn out to be dross.
i would welcome Jake Eastwood to join Maison Campbell as our GK duo .. alas probably be MC as no 1 and a loan as back up ..hope im wrong
July 4, 2025 at 11:35 am #306412Maison for a month and then Fitz on loan if he doesn’t make the bench at Northampton?
July 4, 2025 at 11:45 am #306413Ross Fitzsimmons won games for us as a goalkeeper and it’s been a while we have had that luxury.
Probably need to go back to Joe Murphy since a keeper has done that for us.
I am surprised that a keeper signing wasn’t one of the first announced and even more surprised that as we embark on the pre-season friendlies we still have not signed someone.

July 4, 2025 at 12:59 pm #306423Maison Campbell main man with a loan GK coming in from EFL according to Butler. I hope he’s right about Campbell.
July 4, 2025 at 1:12 pm #306424It’ll be reet… stop worrying.
We’ll just have to score more than we concede.
Dan & Dec’ll sort it!July 4, 2025 at 1:23 pm #306425If Dec scores more than five I’ll eat my hat
July 4, 2025 at 1:25 pm #306426The manager has made a decision so back your keeper.

… and your favourite condiment is?
I wonder what price he’d be to finish on >5 for the season?
July 4, 2025 at 5:08 pm #306445This vastly overplays an ordinary keeper
July 5, 2025 at 9:24 am #306475Worse fears realised last night at Bottesford friendly.
July 5, 2025 at 10:10 am #306476What did he do ‘wrong’?
July 5, 2025 at 10:13 am #306477Worse fears realised last night at Bottesford friendly.
Campbell certainly didn’t do himself no favours to get the doubters off his back last night.
Shot stopping wise he seems fine, handling and distribution not soJuly 5, 2025 at 12:16 pm #306483Totally agree with the OP. We desperately need an experienced keeper. Campbell is a disaster waiting to happen. Looked shaky last night, passed the ball directly to their striker within 5 minutes and fumbled a couple of efforts. Not looking good.

Yep absolutely terrible only managing to keep a clean sheet.

July 5, 2025 at 4:19 pm #306487Just watched the highlights and as said above, they don’t give you confidence. Bottesford keeper actually looked better.
July 5, 2025 at 4:26 pm #306490Butler said the players barely had two days yet with a football since coming back for preseason, he will have done hardly any keeper work with Mussy since coming back, it will be practice and routines all the players will need to get sharp again. He’ll be fine just chill out and give him a chance FFS.

Can’t have looked that much better he conceded four goals, our lad conceded none, match facts are a reasonably accurate guide in most cases.

July 5, 2025 at 9:08 pm #306503Iron-awe, a lack of keeper training or not, passing the ball directly to an opposition striker when you have a huge question mark over your head isn’t a good look.
Distribution wasn’t exactly great either. I predict we’ll sign a more experienced GK and when Campbell struggles he’ll end up taking his place.
Ideally he needs a loan spell somewhere and games under his belt before being 1st choice. Campbells got a hell of a lot if improving to do before the season starts.
July 5, 2025 at 10:05 pm #306508Well we need and will get another keeper in for cover before the season starts but I’m not basing my assessment of Campbell on a kick about against Bottesford Town and neither should others it’s hardly fair IMO.

July 6, 2025 at 5:52 am #306514Agree.
But would still hate to start the season without a 2nd keeper with experience.July 6, 2025 at 9:46 am #306515Distribution wasn’t exactly great either. I predict we’ll sign a more experienced GK and when Campbell struggles he’ll end up taking his place.
Hopefully not when we find ourselves bottom of the league.

July 6, 2025 at 1:53 pm #306521Mr Butler says another keeper is not a no2 – he is there to challenge who has the starting spot.
We have had some in for a look and will be looking at others but there will be another keeper for season start.
July 6, 2025 at 1:54 pm #306522Phew!
That at least makes sense.July 6, 2025 at 2:42 pm #306526Kieran O’Hara OOC at Kilmarnock.
That’s the keeper we got on an loan a few seasons back. He looked a quality keeper for the small number of games he played.
I think he’s better than national league level though sadly.

I don’t think we’ve taken a GK on trial, hence why Campbell played both halves the other night.

Good call Cass , I thought this fella was class when with us a few years back.
July 6, 2025 at 6:51 pm #306533I doubt he would drop down to National League level to compete with Campbell. I think that’s way below his ability.
July 6, 2025 at 8:40 pm #306535But if he has no other offers……?
