BS – you misunderstand the point NI is making. He’s saying that just because you don’t see racism, it doesn’t mean it’s non-existent, ie it exists, even tho’ you, personally, might not have seen it, like with the platypus.

And in football, it was more than a small number of cases 30-40 years ago. Back then, racism was endemic, ie everywhere. You might not remember it, or acknowledge it, but like the platypus, it was very much alive and kicking. And, it’s still there today, although it’s less overt.

You don’t use social media? You do, you’re using it every time you go on this board! But if that comes as a surprise, it’s no surprise you think that racism doesn’t exist.

Once again, it was rife 40 years ago, and 50, and 60 years ago, going back to the Notting Hill riots in 1958, and even before that, to the 19th century and earlier. It was in the media too, but maybe your unfeathered friends in E. Asia left you too distracted to notice.

Why is it in the press and on tv now? That might be due to Covid and the way it has exposed and heightened inequalities of all kinds. We see it with gender and sexuality issues, too.

It’s true if you live in north Lincs, or a backwater like Barton, much of this will seem far away and irrelevant. But, it’s part of a wider issue about inequality, and how this country and its government don’t care or invest enough in those at the bottom, and that includes people like yourself, BS.

Look, if you’re elderly, and/or on benefits, living in a low-skilled, low-income area like north Lincs, then economically and in terms of chances to improve your situation, you’re basically on the same side as black and ethnic minorities. You might be a bloke, and might not be verbally abused, but you’re still marginalized, and told you shouldn’t have a problem if you need assistance through disability, poor health, or if you want access to decent rented accommodation if you can’t afford a house, or if you want employment opportunities locally so your kids can stay nearby and not move miles away to find a job.

Fact is, the elderly and poor of north Lincs. are ignored as much as the ethnic minorities are, but the government really doesn’t want you to see it like that. They’d rather the poor were divided and squabbled among themselves, while Johnson and co sit pretty. Solidarity is a dangerous thing.

OK then what if everyone started to crap in the street, are you just not going to look at them and accept that you have not seen it.

Exactly!

A very good analogy BS. Because that’s what you and others are doing with racism

You’re the one saying “Oh it’s just a group of daft lads mucking about. It doesn’t happen very often, and the Council will be along with the street cleaner later this week”

But the majority of citizens look upon it as something disgusting that shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

They would expect the perpetrators to be arrested, cautioned, fined and educated as to why crapping in the street is wrong.

By not condemning it you are as guilty as those doing it!

Yet more politicisation by the self-righteous, exclusively virtuous left on this board.

Racism is appalling in any and all of its forms. Equally appalling are those on the left who make absurd and nonsensical claims about them being the only ones who “care” about it.

All you care about, Gurnelista, is weaponising anything and everything you possibly can to demonise anyone who doesn’t agree with your views and I’m afraid that seems to extend to some of your mates on here. I don’t agree with BS but you’re in no position to be lecturing anyone about racism given your own views, which are highly selective depending on the race in question.

As for Deerey’s comment on age, just how prejudiced can you get? Do you truly believe that all these appalling comments on social media towards black people are coming from 90 year-olds on their Zimmer frames? Of course they’re not; and do you think they’re all coming from Tory voters?! What planet are you living on?

A huge amount of racism comes from the very people you claim to support and represent, i.e. the working class. No doubt you’ll claim this is also the fault of the Tories for feeding them lies and poor education, forgetting that most of them will actually have been educated under a Labour government.

As the Americans would say: “Look under the hood”. I know there are plenty of racists on the right but there are just as many racists on the left and unless and until we root out the real reasons why there’s racism we’ll never address it.

I don’t recall anyone saying racist posts on social media come from 90 year olds. Nor can I find any reference to this being a left vs right issue.

Bucks clearly agrees with most on this topic, but just can’t bring himself to admit it so he makes stuff up and gives everyone a good scolding anyway.

It’s just BI’s attempt to distract, NI.

If you’re on benefits – disability, pensions, unemployment, handouts and top-ups, or if you need the state because you’re ill or you need care, there’s no point at all in voting Tory.

The government will try to blind you with numbers and say they’ve invested billions in this or that. So why are there still so many problems? Why are so many good, decent people forced to suffer? Who honestly feels good these days? Who feels better off after eleven years of the Tories???

Fact is, that the problems faced by many on low incomes in north Lincs effectively leave them as marginalized as blacks, women, immigrants or the disabled. They don’t have basic rights, and the way they are treated by the state is disgusting.

Yet, they have so much in common that if they ever woke up to it, the Tories would never be in power.

I know NI. This,

‘Unfortunately there is a large cohort, particularly elements of older generations who refuse to change and are unlikely to before they leave this mortal coil.’

is re-interpreted as this:

‘As for Deerey’s comment on age, just how prejudiced can you get? Do you truly believe that all these appalling comments on social media towards black people are coming from 90 year-olds on their Zimmer frames? Of course they’re not; and do you think they’re all coming from Tory voters?! What planet are you living on?’

That’s why his verbal diarrhoea isn’t worth engaging with anymore. Actually getting worse by the weeks.

“You’re in no position to be lecturing anyone about racism given your own views, which are highly selective depending on the race in question”.

And what exactly are Gurny’s views that allow you to repeatedly insinuate he his a racist, when he clearly isn’t?

Set them out clearly or give it a rest!!

It’s just another lame attempt at distraction, Heathy, because he knows the statements about inequality (above) are all true.

You’ve said you come from Scunthorpe, BI. I expect you grew up modestly, maybe in a council house, but because you had some luck in life – assisted by the welfare state and free education – you decided you were a Tory, that they were ‘your people’.

So, now you feel justified in denying fairness to others, especially to those who are elderly, or disabled, or ill and needing care, or even just trying to get a job. Or, those who are marginalized through simply because they have a different religion, or colour, or gender.

If you were born to privilege, the idea of others becoming less disadvantaged, catching up, or even ‘equal’, must feel like oppression.

But I doubt you were born with a silver spoon, BI, and in the 1950s, 60s and 70s, in an area like North Lincs. you would have been a direct beneficiary of socialism, which incidentally, used to be a feature of all the main parties. Yet now, you’ve become the white equivalent of an ‘uncle Tom’, a white ‘choc-ice’, denying the existence of inequality and benefits to others, while laughing up your sleeve about it. In other words, thoroughly disgusting.

A development in the right direction but I can’t see it making that much difference. All clubs should do this indefinitely until social media owners help sort it out by getting rid of anonymous accounts:

I really don’t think anonymous accounts are the answer. While it might make tracking down racists easier, I am not comfortable with those who use anonymity for good reasons being denied a voice. The activists in undemocratic nations, and this nation as well, using anonymity to avoid state authoritarianism. Those in abusive situations making their voices heard to sympathisers, where their abuser can’t trace them. Those who want to speak freely without risk of being told to hush by their employer. I think this needs to be balanced in and a crackdown on anonymous accounts would only harm those who use it for good reasons.

The focus should be on social media to do more to rid itself of the abusive accounts.

Now that Derek Chauvin has been found guilty of murdering George Floyd, I thought there’d be a few racists on these boards admitting they were wrong and that their prejudices clouded their judgements. NOT! Where’s the likes of J Charles parping on about Floyd being ‘a drug addict’, like that’s some sort of excuse for murdering someone? What will it take for these people to understand why BLM exists and will keep getting stronger and why taking the knee is not going away? Anyone else fall for that horse s*** from some on these boards about wanting it to stop because it isn’t effective enough? Liars. The only reason they want it to stop, like Farage who embarrassingly got another one wrong there, is nowt to do with interest in finding more effective ways of protest, but because it’s an affront to their prejudices or because they’ve fallen for the right wing conspiracy theorists lies about BLM being a Marxist movement.

Persuasive argument you’ve put forward there BPG. Here’s a more accurate one: you’ve been bought by religious factions peddling a right wing conspiracy theory.
