…not a political group, for those who wish to undermine it, and taking the knee (that backfired for the racists didn’t it given Premier league players are still doing it), for nefarious reasons. If they were a political group they wouldn’t have gained community benefit status (see article link below).
Time for the racists to do some research instead of conveniently believing lies on the internet. Like many protest groups, BLM attracted support from the SWP. That does not make it inherently Marxist. That does not make footballers taking the knee a political gesture. It does make Farage wrong again when he said taking the knee was over. Unfortunately DM I believe not many racists do research, they mainly deal in hate and I also believe their hate is handed down through the generations. Education is the way forward as we know but how many hate filled racists wish to be educated? Don’t hold your breath waiting for the answer.January 11, 2021 at 1:58 pm #200616GurnelistaParticipantOffline

That’s right. Never mind the facts, strength of belief is enough, specially when it’s confirmed on someobody’s Facebook page, or by some bloke in a suit.January 11, 2021 at 3:11 pm #200625
I know a couple of people who, although I’m sure they’re NOT racist still have a problem with BLM, saying it should be “all lives matter”. I usually answer with this little story: –
Three siblings, Tom, Dick & Harry want to go tho the match. It’s £5 to get in. Tom has £15 so he’s okay, but Dick only has £2 and Harry has nothing.
Their granddad sees their long faces and asks what the problem is. “Right then” he says. “Here’s £5 for you Harry and £3 for Dick. Off you go”.
But Tom kicks off. “Where’s my money? It’s not fair that Dick and Harry get some and I don’t”. “Because you have all you need and more”. Replied granddad. “In fact, if you had been a good brother you’d have given them the money yourself”.
That’s what BLM is. It’s about being a good brother. Admitting you have enough and helping others who are not as fortunate.January 11, 2021 at 4:16 pm #200641
Unfortunately there is a large cohort, particularly elements of older generations who refuse to change and are unlikely to before they leave this mortal coil. I recall plenty of research in the past that proved men are likely to get more right wing the older they get. These people are a last cause and I wouldn’t waste my breath trying to discuss the issue with them. If they can’t be bothered, or refuse to try and understand why taking the knee has not gone away, as racist xenophobic figurehead’s like Farage claimed it would, then leave them to their bitter isolationist world.January 11, 2021 at 5:45 pm #200649GreylagParticipantOffline

Oh dear, blame it all on us oldies. Many of us are far more enlightened than some of you youngsters.January 11, 2021 at 5:49 pm #200651
I’m not blaming it all on the oldies though am I. Why are you and a few others of late incapable of reading and comprehending the written word? Why are you twisting things?January 11, 2021 at 5:53 pm #200652
If you have a problem with me greylag, as demonstrated in your post to me, previous to the one above, then fine, your call, but please try and refrain from demonisation.January 11, 2021 at 6:02 pm #200653GreylagParticipantOffline

I did read your post carefully. While conceding that it did not criticise ALL oldies, I would contend that it contains a judgement that could equally be applied to “elements of younger generations”January 11, 2021 at 6:33 pm #200657
Why not just say that then instead of twisting what I said? It was a response to I-A’s post about education.
I stick by my post about elements of the older generation not wishing to change their views and attitudes before they die. No need to be so defensive, I’m no spring chicken myself.
Of course it can equally be applied to elements of the younger generation, but there’s more time for them to change.January 11, 2021 at 7:32 pm #200663billpuntonsghostParticipantOffline

SPEAKING AS AN OLDIE OF 80 YEARS OF AGE, i AGREE WITH WHAT DEEREYME IS SAYING REGADING OLDER PEOPLE BEING MORE RACIST THAN YOUNGER PEOPLE. i THINK THAT IT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY BECAUSE WE DID NOT GET THE PROBLEM OF BEING KNOWN A RACIST SIMPLY BECAUSE SIXTY OR SEVENTY YEARS AGO, AND FOR THE SIMPLE REASON OFTHERE BEING VERY FEW PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY THAT WERE FROM ABROAD SO WE DID NOT GET THE SUBJECT EITHER BROACHED OR RAMMED DOWN OUR THROATS.
I am thimking and speaking for myself, although many older people will agree that the main problem is that things get blown out of all proportion to the extent of being rammed down your throat time after time, like this knee thing, if it had been done one time, or even at all events in a particular month of each year, it would have been fine, but no! it has now become an event that is done before every football, cricket and motor racing event for ever, and really does not mean a thing now.
An example of this is lets say, is when Northumbiron pulls you up constantly for making spellpng mistakes, the first few times you think ok thanks pal, but when it becomes every time you make an error, you change your thoughts of thank you into thinking “sick twat.January 11, 2021 at 11:46 pm #200673
No offence BS, but my opinion and that of many others is that the reason the knee continues is because the players recognise the need to continue it to make the point rather than a token gesture of doing it just the once. You say it’s being rammed down your throat but in reality it’s a few seconds at the start of every game. Not too unreasonable is it?January 12, 2021 at 12:07 am #200675
I’ll happily take the knee in support of literacy!January 12, 2021 at 11:47 am #200683
I note that Lyle Taylor did not take the knee in the FA Cup game against Cardiff at the weekend, and stated in the press that he did not believe in the BLM group that he said were a rebel bunch and that taking the knee every game has devalued the aim. Lyle stated that he had spoken to the Forest manager before the match and the manager had told him that he had no problem with Lyles intention and if it was his belief, to just go ahead with it.
I wonder if this is just what many of the players were waiting for, and with it being a man of colour, it could be the start of the end.
You appear to be a very learned man Northumbiron, what is your background employment wise?, I am interested to know. As you are aware, my spelling is very poor and always has been, and because of my very poor sight (have difficult reading the computer screen) I hope not, but yours might be the same when you reach 80.
My spelling is terrible mate, but I worked all over the world for 45 years as Construction Manager, Mechanical Super’t, Mechanical Eng, until retiring at 69 in West Papua, at that time being Maintence Manager for BP. Over those 45 years I worked for many of the leading Construction Companies from America and Japan, on many of the largest Petro-Chem, Power Station and LNG Projects, so apart from the spelling, my record is not too bad is it really??. So at the same time as taking the piss, just bare a thought that you are not taking the piss out od a total idiot!!!!January 12, 2021 at 12:10 pm #200684GurnelistaParticipantOffline

BS – just because one footballer among thousands decides not to do it, it’s a big story in papers like the Mail.
In the Mail, small stories like this are often reported out of all proportion, yet really big stories like BLM don’t receive much coverage, and even less of it is positive. Why? Because it suits their agenda.
It’s like a story about one person’s benefit fraud. The Mail reports it as a big issue, in a way that suggests it’s typical of those who go cap in hand to the state, abuse the system, etc.
Just imagine if there was no BLM and one player had made a comment about racism in football.
Do you think the paper would have bothered reporting it? Of course not, it would be regarded as trivial or eccentric. Why? Because Mail readers don’t want to be reminded about racism in society and football, or might even agree with it, as they cheer on their own black players!
It’s how the Mail works.January 12, 2021 at 3:44 pm #200688
Before the last General Election Lyle Taylor spoke out against raising taxes for high earners as he deserved every penny he earned. Hmmm!
Sounds like our former striker likes to be seen and heard. He is entitled to his views on things of course and I’ve no problem with it. As Gurney says it’s just one player. We’ll wait and see if others follow him.
BS – I started teaching in the West End of Newcastle in 1974. I worked full time for 15 years then part-time (supply) whilst I worked as a freelance artist. I ended up in further/higher education, tutoring in design at Newcastle College and lecturing in architectural history on a post graduate course at Van Mildert College, Durham University.
Since I retired in 2013 I been involved in lots of archaeology projects including being a volunteer geophysicist for Newcastle University Archaeology Dept. Sadly 2020 was a disaster for community archaeology.
Always had a thing about spelling/grammar (still correct my son and he’s in his 30s!). Just the teacher in me, nothing to do with being a “sick twat” as you put it!January 14, 2021 at 11:31 pm #200894
Northumbiron, that is a very fine CV of yours, and you have not been frightened to move to different levels and you cover a good scope of work activities, I congratulate you, and wish more people would follow in your footsteps well done to you.
As stated, I worked overseas for 45 years and for probably 20 different leading International Companies, some of them on a few different occasions, just following large Project, also a built up repution helped with continuity of employment.
I know too well that my spellings not good, but I just wondered why you jump on this, but you have now explained why, so I will do my very best to improve where possible, and the first step would be for me to read my script prior to pressing the submit button.January 15, 2021 at 12:26 am #200895
Education is a lifelong thing BS. You’re never too old to learn.January 16, 2021 at 12:12 am #200940
Northumbiron—–The only conclusiuon that I can come up with that covers us both is:-
Some people are very good at reading, spelling, sitting exams and tellingi, and others are very good at doing things, example being that I could not stand and preach to students, but could supervise the installation or refurbishment of a 200 ton turbine driven compressor on an LNG Project about the size of two buses put together, but at the same time as being useless at spelling ha ha!, every one to his thing. Have a good day mate as mine has been shite with my central heating packing up, and I cannot fix a little bloody thing like that.January 16, 2021 at 12:29 am #200943
Bloody hell BS. All that mechanical engineering experience and your boiler is the bane of your life. Hope you get it fixed soon. I say that with all sincerity. Take care and stay safe from that Covid fecker.January 16, 2021 at 1:24 pm #200956
Cheers Deareyme66, fixed this morning pal, it was the pump that was knackered, well beyond my Mechanical Engineering experience ha ha!
Regarding Corona mate, had the first jab on Wed, really hurt for a couple of days, but was very pleased to get it, Barton Surgery are doing 700 a day x three days per week, and are also doing jabs on Goxhill, Winterton and Burton on Stather residents, and are really great with a squad of about 30 people.
Just going to suffer another £10 worth of whatching Barrow v Scunny, at least the heating feels good now its fixed.January 16, 2021 at 2:23 pm #200964
Always nice to hear good news BS. Glad you got that sorted and your jab. Hope you enjoy the game.January 16, 2021 at 3:59 pm #200996Iron-aweParticipantOffline

It does. Can’t stomach watching it and paying a tenner for the privilegeJanuary 16, 2021 at 5:34 pm #201036
Thanks guys, and you are both right about the match, there should be no complaints if both these teams are in the National League next season, is it me or are they actually getting worse each time they play??March 29, 2021 at 10:15 am #203957
This’ll disappoint the right wing conspiracy theorists…
“This is not about political correctness. This is not about ‘wokeism’ or whatever anyone else wants to call it. This is about legitimate policing. Legitimate policing has to be legitimate for all the communities, and that includes the black community.”April 1, 2021 at 5:12 pm #204014
I may be different, but I have never ever seen any raceism at football, cricket, speedway or rugby league games, also never seen any in streets or towns, and in fact never in any of the many countries that I worked, but don’t you think that these mostly black people ranting on about it continualy goes beyond what their actual claims are ?.
What I am trying to say is that every time you switch the TV on, it’s either the present Corona virus updates, or interviews of people preaching what is being done wrong, or how the EU Mafia are shafting us at every possible chance they get, or the BLM subject, or if footy or GP races are on it is the knee thing, do others not get sick of watching these things??
I am just hoping that the polise guy in the present court case gets the max penaLY possible or there will be riots and looting throughout the world, causing more deaths and suffering, I agree it was terrible the way the guy died, I cannot see why the protests, rioting and looting should spread into our country.
I am not racist, just bored to tear listening to the same thing, day after day, thats all guys.April 1, 2021 at 6:55 pm #204023billpuntonsghostParticipantOffline

Critical Theory is neo-Marxism .
You can stick anything inbetween critical theory eg critical race theory, critical homosexuality theory etc. This leads to intersectionality as it breaks down.
It’s a neo-Marxist philosophy that has infiltrated university’s for the last 70+ years and is now mainstream and is going to lead to tremendous damage in the society we live. Coupled with the totalitarian regimes joining together in unison around the world the future is very bleak. This was written in my own words.
