Some wrote him whilst he was recovering from long Covid. Thankfully the club stuck with him.

Some wanted him gone end of last season, couldn’t fathom it he’s such a good team player and has been consistent the last two seasons in particular but as they say it’s all about opinions.

Beestin is not the replacement for Clunan. He’s a completely different type of player. If anyone is it’s Ewing.

Alfie is EFL standard and that’s where we were when we signed him (was it Hurst?). The fact that he’s our longest serving player after all we’ve been through in the past 5/6 years says a lot about the mutual respect between club and player.

Always rated Alfie, win , lose or draw he runs his legs off for the team. How many times have we seen almost out on his feet but he still made the effort to keep going, he gets subbed not because he is not having a good but because he is too tired to go on. We need to keep hold of him.

We look a much more formidable team now.
AB seems to have sorted the defence out now too.
    Much more dynamic breaking forward.
    Speed kills.

    Beestin much better than Clunan

Agree .. when comparing Clunan to our current other midfielders he would really struggle when up againsnt all of them especially Ewing , Beesin and Rowley .. Clunan was a holding mf thus way more negative hence is “goal tally” whilst here at Scunny.
Credit to AB and all the staff n players they have surprised most and long may it continue .. long time since had such a tight knit strong squad who give 110% every game.

Well done to all ..including the 1552 fans at York , best away support for noise as could only hear them on the commentary, sadly unwatchable DAZN here :)

Clunan was a decent player for NLN, but he was never anything more. Could organise a midfield, but his passing, strength and class would elude him at this level. Our midfield is now much better. It’s a true competition as to who gets in because we are loaded with decent players in that area.

Alfie has always had a wondergoal or two in him but his ball retention has always left a lot to be desired over previous years…that appears to be much improved this season.

I think Rowley is the reason we’re not missing Clunan in the slightest. He’s playing a slightly deeper role than he did last season and he’s excelling at it. Hasn’t been less than a 7 in any game so far!

Given we have one of the best midfields in the league with three midfielders who can all play, do people still want a tough tackling midfielder?

    HLC – a good point.
This CM (+the Donny lad) – looks the business.
Mind you – I’d still never turn my nose up at signing any Bish-type CM.

I think Rowley is close to that player hairy cammack, but with more skill and speed than that tank like player. That said ‘Erwing’ and Beestin are battlers too. No old skool midfield general needed. Them days are over.

I’d not thought about it in quite those terms but you make a solid point DM. We do have a really decent CM – who’d have guessed?
