Iron Bru › Forums › Blast Furnace › After the Lord Mayor’s Show
Our start has been so good and I hope it continues indefinitely but having supported the Iron for decades, I’m wary of that ‘one bad day at the office’ which afflicts most clubs ( with special reference to tomorrow’s visitors – at York). We seem to be preparing and sussing out opponents so well and adapting during games which gives me cause for optimism. The standout reflection on our performances this season is that last year’s star player is now among other star players. Roberts is alongside Rowley, Beestin and Ewing, The strikers are interchangeable and effective and the defence is solid with cover. Tomorrows opponents provide another challenge which I’m sure we’ll rise to and I’m looking forward to another victory. May the Lord Mayor’s Show never end.
For me, we are now playing as a team, with team goals supplanting individual ones. Roberts square ball for TSF’s tap in against Southend. Last year having done the hard work, he would have shot himself and may/may not have scored. This unselfishness makes us incredible difficult to defend against, York were completely blindsided by Boyce’s air shot”dummy” on Wednesday and he had the sense to leave his second attempt to Alfie Beestin. You can’t create this stuff easily, it needs a manager touched by magic. Last time we had a team like this was under Gandalf the Grey ( Nigel Adkin’s himself) is Andy Butler the new Merlin?
..remind me,Phil, who was manager when we tonked Nottm Forest 4-0 at Forest, who was manager when we tonked Huddersfield 4-1 at their ground ( when both were top of the league at their time). Who had teams that scored five, six and seven goals in games at home during his glorious time as manager. Just saying.
I hope it isn’t today
It was Radagast the Brown. He had such big hair animals could have lived in it!
Well we’re now the only unbeaten team in the league. At least until 7.30pm.
Got to give praise for that.

That was before Adkins. He said best since Adkins, which doesn’t negate those good times. Adkins was still a great manager for us who brought us over the line for 2 promotions and memorable wins against Millwall in the playoffs, Sheff Wednesday, Newcastle, 4-0 at Palace and more.
In respect of my ‘one bad day at the office’ – yesterday wasn’t it.
