October 12, 2025 at 5:22 pm #312243It’s the only way we will get the best out of Howe, he’s wasted playing out wide and sadly he’s not skillful enough to be a winger.

Following on from that the formation could then fluctuate between 4-4-2 and 4-1-2-1-2 with a midfield diamond.October 12, 2025 at 5:52 pm #312245Oh no,not again!

Is it a sound check?

It’s about quality of footballers. We have 6 players for whom the inclusion of their deputy is a significant downgrade on performance.
Those players are Evans, Ewing, Rowley. Beestin, Roberts and Whitehall. Should probably add Mahady to that list while Campbell remains injured.
Missing any one of them brings in a replacement that is not of National League standard – not top half of the league standard anyway. Havivg to bring in 3 or 4 and we are left with a pretty poor team as demonstrated in the last 3 games. This is not the fault of those players, Butler or the board. It is a factor of the clubs finances. Our budget does not buy 20 top end National League footballers.
If this squad stays top half of the league that will be a fantastic achievement.

November 23, 2025 at 9:18 am #313515I absolutely agree with you.
No strength in depth.
But, could we extract more from the said utilising them differently?November 23, 2025 at 10:45 am #313523Following on from MKI’s post I also think that some of the “important” players have lately been performing way below what we know they are capable of.(No names but they and we know who they are) Could it be a little bit of complacency? “I’ll be in next week anyway”

But, could we extract more from the said utilising them differently? At the risk of upsetting our sensitive manager I would have certainly used 1 or 2 players a bit differently yesterday.
If my leading goalscorer was injured my first inclination would be to replace him with my second leading goalscorer rather than with someone without a goal or assist all season. Accept Carlton has appeared mainly from the bench in League games but he has never looked even vaguely like scoring. I counted one instance in nearly 70 minutes where he got a ball passed to him under his control. I was fairly surprised he made it until half time and shocked to see him appear for the second half.
When Howe finally did get on we helped him by removing any other attacking threat – Beestin, Roberts and Sellers-Fleming.
The replacements offered no such threat unless you feel Dawson can add to the 10 seconds of quality he has shown since his return to the club.
Well done to Braintree for making substitutions to change the game rather than just to keep the squad happy.
