Money needed to be raised for this purpose. I am not convinced that national insurance hikes are the right answer, since they disproportionately affect the young and lower income. It’s a regressive tax which can be avoided by many of those on higher profits. Landlords won’t have to pay it, for example, nor will wealthy pensioners.
