Something is being lost here, the fact that when the US and Britain entered Afghanistan, later backed up by other countries, it was under the deluded banner of ‘The War on Terror’, it was never supposed to be a charitable cause to help rid law abiding peaceful Afghans of The Taliban as some are making out on here, it was supposedly to stop Al QA’ida and find Bin Laden. So, yes, the UK signed up to being the world’s police force there and then, and as a result has stayed put since to try and prevent a return of The Taliban and Afghanistan being a host nation to terrorist groups. And for that reason, any country who took part in that policing, including the UK, now have a basic duty of care to look after and take in a percentage of civilians effected. This is less about being charitable and more about duty. The US, UK and other countries governments recognise this. It takes some negligence and inhumanity to suggest not doing it.
