While there are some signs of creeping authoritarianism, such as more of a push towards punishing journalists who try to expose Johnson, and the advent of AI brings with it a discussion over freedom and presents ways for governments to monitor our lives, there is no imminent risk of all being doomed. We still have democratic freedoms, as evident by the fact that we can criticise government without repercussion. Try that in China and you won’t get far.
It’s important to be specific when criticising ideology. Marxism isn’t a synonym for totalitarianism. It’s one ideology which can create a totalitarian state, but fascism, Ba’athism, Christian fundamentalism and Islamism are other ideologies which can lead to and have led to authoritarianism and control over people’s lives. To simply blanket it all as Marxism makes it appear as if you have a bias against it and are apathetic about other ideologies which lead to similar results.
