The EU may be baffled and frustrated by our stance on it, but that has nothing to do with UNESCO decisions or whether the rest of the world like us. And if proceeding with Brexit makes the rest hate us, then that’s a strong argument against it.
Like it or not, we need trading partners and each trade deal involves pooling a degree of sovereignty. In the modern world we can’t isolate ourselves off from the rest. The idyllic times of nostalgic 1950s and 60s is not coming back ever. Yes, ‘globalism’ brings its challenges and we can see that with the rise of multinationals, poor pay, conditions etc, but it brings advantages too and there is no movement or will to stop it. We should work with it to ensure the best for society, rather than close ourselves off and resort to bitterness.
