so what’s left to be be mega activist about?
Some examples in no particular order… the cost of housing, the cost of education, the growing pay gap, zero hours contracts, inequalities around gender and ethnicity and health…..the poverty of old age and the cost of social care where older people need to sell their houses to get it, the absence of free child care, issues around the environment and global warming… we could go on.
We should also recognize the role played by a biased media and their attacks on people like Corbyn and anyone to the left of Johnson. Largely foreign-owned and tax exiled media companies are biased against anything left of centre simply because it threatens their power and profits.
How? For starters, just take the portrayals of the leaders. As someone rightly said earlier – if the leader doesn’t wear a tie and helps refugees, he’s portrayed as a loony lefty, but if he’s an incorrigible liar and disheveled philanderer who refuses to say how many kids he’s got, as long as he wears the blue scarf, he’s alright in the eyes of 75%+ of the press, plus Fox, Sky etc. etc.
And the con trick played by press and parliament on the ‘red wall’ seats – that instead of blaming Westminster we should be blaming Brussels for the collapse of the north and all things bad – economically, politically and morally, is one Derren Brown would be proud of.
