Your right BRI, Blair won in a landslide in 1997 because people were pissed off with 18 years of Tory government a lot of which was very dictatorial in its nature. The nation was well ready for a change of direction but the electorate wanted the right style of government coming in to replace the old regime. New Labour and Blair have been panned in recent years mainly due to the Iraq war which is fair comment ( we should have told Bush to do one ) but the country mainly prospered under them and let’s not forget the Good Friday Agreement. If Labour want another shot at government they have to think about how they appeal more and if that means a more centrist approach then that’s fine by me. Political views throughout the electorate have changed massively in recent years and we aren’t a nation of flat cap wearers pedalling their bikes to the factory anymore. This government has been quite obnoxious at times with its attitude towards the NHS and other institutions we hold dear, it’s waving away of ministerial misdemeanors as ok and it’s general arrogance is so frustratingly annoying as they smirk behind an 80 seat majority. With boundary changes due in the next few years which appear to favour safe Tory constituencies, now is not the time for opposition parties to be unappealing to the population as an alternative to this dire bunch currently in charge. We cannot become a one party state because that is the start of a dangerous path for a country to take.
