Exactly, Fifty Pence. Christianity and religion make out that humans are more special than other creatures. I rarely hear talk of earthworms, slugs and amoeba going to Heaven or Hell (the entire basis of Christianity makes it impossible for animals, since they cannot answer whether they accept Christ as their saviour or not). It’s only humans, and at a push pets, who get treated this way by Christians, so it is clear that they see man as more central than humanists do.
To humanists we are a product of evolution, just as any other creature on Earth. We are no more special, just more sentient than other life on this planet, and this planet is just one among trillions and trillions in the Universe. Nothing superior to us compared to the rest of the Universe. It’s ironic that after much anger was caused by astronomers making out that our solar system was not the centre of the Universe Christians are now saying it’s not they who see humanity and our place in the Universe as special.
