Had local elections here yesterday.
Northumberland Police Commissioner & Local Ward Councillor.
In the first category I voted for the present incumbent as people who I spoke to said she was really good. She just happened to be Labour.
There were four candidates in the second category. Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat & Green.
We’d had one flier from the Tory guy. A rotund Boris lookalike called Rupert! Zero communication from Labour or Lib/Dem and probably half a dozen leaflets from the Green candidate. Stuff like inviting us to join his electric car-share scheme or to join in a litter-pick around the village. His posters were the only ones to be seen in people’s windows. He had been the most pro-active so I voted for him (no chance of me voting Tory!).
Would I have done the same in a General Election? I doubt it.
The utter complacency of Labour, not even bothering to introduce their candidate to the local electorate probably sums up their failings yesterday.
And as I posted on another thread, now is the ideal time for the Lib/Dems to split the Tory/Labour stronghold but once again, no!
The Conservatives will be laughing their socks off. Absolutely no opposition to stop them getting away with……..
Well we all know what that is!
