Bucksiron claims to be an expert in statistics and I have no reason to disbelieve him. However it does not follow that such experts are infalliblke. A problem with statistical analysis is the tendency to jump to unjustified conclusions about causal relationships. Researchers often find evidence that two variables are highly correlated, but that doesn’t prove that one variable causes another.
“Lies, damned lies, and statistics” is a phrase describing the persuasive power of numbers, particularly the use of statistics to bolster weak arguments.
