There’s scepticism, but then there’s just dismissal. Yes, The Daily Mail is often rubbish, but whenever people bring a story up people just dismiss it out of hand. This is regardless of merit. If someone quotes a story from there containing actual quotes from a Labour MP or whatever they just say it’s a smear and you can’t trust the Daily Mail. A lot of its investigative journalism may be very biased, it may have dodgy opinion pieces, but a story cannot be dismissed just because it’s in the Daily Mail. You have to delve into it first to see, but many don’t.
Nor do I think the Times is perfect, but it’s valuable to have a well written and articulate newspaper from a different position. Not all Times journalists will be decent, but it does have a track record for investigative journalism. It was The Times which broke the story regarding Johnson not attending COBRA meetings, after all.
