‘That’s a lot of people who like deplorable and bigoted news across every political divide — just because you don’t doesn’t make you better than they are.’
Yes it is, and yes, I’m afraid they do Bucks, otherwise they would stop reading it. And that includes family and friends of mine. I’m not saying that makes me better than them at all, but typically you use the opportunity to say I am. I’m saying in general they publish bigoted crap. And yes, I do pick up the Mail now and then to witness how many prominent negative stories there are about immigrants, benefits cheats, and general doubling down on minorities, plus the usual plethora of celebrity and Royals junk.
BRI, I don’t think there’s a leftist tendency to dismiss the likes of The Mail, I think there’s a healthy scepticism of it, and rightly so given it’s overall content and ownership. You mention The Times being a decent newspaper. What constitutes decent? Is it photoshopping a picture of a Toy Story character with Sunak’s face on it saying ‘to immunity and beyond’ and putting it on the front cover? This despite evidence that Eat out to Help Out contributed to a large rise in Covid infections? I wouldn’t call that decent, I’d say it was a cheap shot at gaining public approval for the government.
