That’s a very defensive post, Gurny. None of the data I’ve seen on the media coverage provides an “apples vs apples” comparison. For that you’d have to compare all the negative media coverage about Kate with all the negative media coverage about Meghan. Provide that and you might have a point. Otherwise you’re simply reflecting your opinion, which is absolutely fine but isn’t fact as you’re claiming.
Your claims about the Royal Family are also extraordinarily simplistic. I’ve never been a ‘royalist’ but strongly believe the Royal Family is good for the UK, from the massive revenue they bring from tourism, for which there is extremely strong evidence, to the stability they bring to our form of government. Of course things aren’t perfect — I wouldn’t claim they are — but they’re still better than the alternatives.
As for behaving badly, what’s happened in the USA over the past four years is hardly a great example of the alternatives and there are numerous other examples of republican governments behaving every bit as badly as members of our Royal Family.
Regarding Meghan and Harry “deciding to go their own way” and “creating a life for themselves”, that’s a ridiculous statement. What they’re doing is nothing more than exploiting the privilege of Harry’s birth and making a fortune on the back of it. What’s so sad is that Meghan could have made a huge difference in the fight against racism, but the lure of celebrity and money appears more important. The fact she’s black is irrelevant — indeed, she was extremely popular before all of this happened.
As for anti-Semitism in the Labour party, Gurnelista, I’m very happy with the position that Starmer’s taken and believe he deserves a lot of credit for taking it. My question is whether you’re happy with it and your answer is evasive, which is pretty sad given your self-righteous, holier-than-thou position on everything. However, it doesn’t surprise me.
