Where was the talk of the need for unity after the election when the Republicans stoked election rigging conspiracies? Where was the talk of unity when Trump, and others, stoked the fires of the Capitol storming? Why is it the responsibility of Democrats and liberals to seek compromise to avoid hurt feelings of Trump voters and never the other way round? This is especially true after a significant number of the other side sought divisive action after the election.
If the Republicans wanted unity maybe they should have thought of that when they acted as they did. If they engage in dangerous and criminal behaviour they should face the consequences, no matter how many voted for them. To say otherwise is just an argument to avoid responsibility and appease bad behaviour.
For all the talk of how many voted for Trump it ignores more voted for Biden, and Hillary Clinton for that matter. I don’t see the logic in trying to appease fewer Trump voters when it could disunite those on the other side who will understandably want to see Trump face the consequences of stoking a failed insurrection.
