The problem is that Brexiters promised less red tape post-Brexit. Saying that the extra red tape is just classic EU ignores the fact that we were told how we needed to leave the EU and the Single Market due to bureaucracy. It doesn’t matter how many times Brexiters say that the bureaucracy is the EU’s fault, the fact is that being out has given us more, in contradiction to what was promised. The argument was that we have too much bureaucracy in the EU, we need to be out to reduce it, not we have too much bureaucracy in the EU, we need to be out so we get more and finger wag at the EU for creating more due to the need to ensure we’re not benefitting from a free market we don’t want access to. Trade with the EU will continue to be our bigger interest due to geography, so a more convoluted trade network is not in our best interests.
