“Those forms were the inevitability of being outside the Single Market”
That just about sums it up, BRI, thank you. The main reason for staying in the Single Market was to reduce the number of forms that have to be completed.
There you have it in a nutshell. The reason the Scottish fishermen can’t export to the EU is because they’re not filling in the forms correctly. Now why might that be, one wonders? Might it have anything to do with the EU now imposing nonsensical conditions on the need for the product to be inspected by a vet and insisting on 100 signatures to go with it? So, nothing to do with the EU protecting their own markets but everything to do with petty bureaucracy “to teach those British a lesson”.
As for “debate”, where exactly is the basis for any “debate” given this entire thread is one big rant from the usual suspects?
For example, I’ve been accused of claiming that “I know better than the LSE”. This is a complete fabrication. All I’ve done is point out that the ‘experts’ have been wrong about everything regarding the economy in connection with Brexit. Yet somehow we’re supposed to suddenly start believing them?! How stupid of me — thanks for putting me right on that one.
What none of you appear to have any clue about is just how damaging the EU’s been to business. Plenty of EU rules, regulations and directives have caused untold damage — just because you can’t drive a big lorry with a sign on it about many of these things doesn’t mean they haven’t happened.
For instance, I’m sure we’re all keen to protect privacy on the Internet but the EU’s GDPR rules have been a nightmare and cost tends of thousands of jobs while adding huge bureaucracy and costs to small organisations and charities.
The EU’s fishing rules themselves decimated British fishing fleets and led to millions of perfectly good fish being wasted. Now petty EU form-filling is doing the same with Scottish shellfish. A bit of common sense would prevent such appalling waste but instead, of course, it’s all the fault of those silly Brits who voted to leave the EU so let’s teach them a lesson.
EU farming subsidies just made big landowners richer. I could go on but what’s the point. You’re not interested in debate. Sorry, but it really is pathetic, there’s no other word for it.
