Of course it’s deliberately written to provoke comment.
Some might say ‘So what, it’s just a bit of fun’. But there’s a really serious problem here, because posts like this say what some people actually (and mistakenly) think. They confirm and justify people’s prejudices, because someone else is apparently saying the same thing, even though it’s absolute rubbish – see for example how it gets BS is cheering along elsewhere on here!
Note too, how this and other fake news posts are written in the language of a ‘Sun’ editorial, the language of the street hooligan-politico. No figures or analysis, and it’s completely fact-free. It just aims to get people stirred up, cheering, fanatical, and usually hating on some particular group, much as fascists used to do in the Hispanic world, Germany, the East End, etc.
But the ‘O’ level English indicates that the author not quite as dim as he’s pretending. He’s simply devious and just trying to manipulate folk.
It’s what the far-right has been doing for a some years – it was fake news like this about immigration and the EU which influenced the referendum result, and got Trump elected in the US.
People like Les and Jonathan so blinded by their narrow views that they fail to understand the damage they are doing to ordinary people, and ultimately to the institutions on which democracy depends. As former public officials and even teachers(!), they really ought to be speaking out against this sort of populist pox, instead of further poisoning public debate.
