“The food products in question seem to be those items of fruit and veg that were out of season at this time of the year when I was lad. So to me no big deal if you can’t get lettuce and broccoli!”
Necessary public information or unnecessary scaremongering?”
The EU Referendum was 4.5 years ago. We have known for some time that the leaving date was end 2020.
Yet again, I would take the argument from the sunny uplanders about the “benefits” a bit more seriously if they were serious about making this work for the benefit of the people and UK business.
They could have launched a grow in Britain and buy British campaign 4.5 years ago. They could have tackled the supermarkets monopoly on food supply of cheap, imported overly packaged, uniform appearance and often tasteless produce.
Why no buy British campaign or investment in farming, taxes on supermarket imported food, reduction of food wastage, and serious food packaging reduction policies. The money to do this WAS there all the time.
As far as I can work out they have done F all, which can only bring me to one conclusion. The status quo of a trade deal was always going to be agreed.
And they were s**t scared of making any unpopular decisions that would lead to price increases, which with a bit of visionary thinking and investment they could have controlled.
So if a trade deal is to be signed, and it will, what was the point of all this wasted time, lies, opportunities lost, dividing the people 50:50 and the eventual break up of the UK? Where has there been any vision for the country other than boasts, false optimism and unchallenged lies?
The events of the last few days have proven we are not prepared for anything and as a country are very vulnerable.
We will not have 100% control of our waters.
We will still pretty much have to agree to a level playing field.
We have massively increased red tape for our businesses.
Many of our businesses will have to cover these costs or go out of business.
We have lost so much respect around the world.
We have split the nation which has created uncontrolled hatred and seen the rise of the right wing and dangerous conspiracy theorists.
We have let our country be taken over by liars, e.g. the latest Trumpism of ONLY 140 lorries on the M20 told to the whole nation in a public address by the Prime Minister, the Transport Minister and the Home Secretary 15 hours later.
In our fairly recent past, our media would have been all over such an untruth and would not have stopped until ministers were forced to resign or be sacked by the PM.
The problem with that is our PM is the biggest liar of them all!!
