Yes, it could, and hopefully it will be. However, all that will mean is the inevitable tit for tat of the UK being penalised by the EU for trying to be more competitive outside of what was agreed, being delayed. There’s no reason Johnson can’t accept the EU terms now, unless he knows this ‘inevitable’ is just a matter of time. Quite why he wants to jump in to the fire now instead of later is anyone’s guess. Something to do with Etonians never being told they’re wrong? Any commentator, left or right, will tell you that any deal now is rubbish for the UK. What more proof does anyone need if The Telegraph and Times are saying it?
