Iron Bru understand that Fleetwood Town are leading the race to sign Scunthorpe striker Paddy Madden.
A number of League One sides, including Doncaster and Bradford were also monitoring Madden’s situation, but it is understood that his wage demands have been a stumbling block for a number of clubs.
Madden is out of contract at the end of the season and Iron chairman Peter Swann admitted he would consider a bid for Madden, should one be made
Swann told BBC Radio Humberside: “Paddy will hopefully stick around with us and would never be surplus to requirements.
“He has been fantastic for us but hasn’t scored for a while which is not ideal for a striker.
“He is an important part of the football club but he is coming to the end of his contract so if a few offers come in we will consider them.”
