Cobblers to investigate altercation

Northampton Town will wait on a report by match officials before deciding whether to report Scunthorpe United stewards after an altercation in the away end on Saturday.

A seat was thrown and a group of Cobblers fans were ejected during the incident which took place midway through the second half.

Spokesman Gareth Willsher said: “At this stage it is hard for us to comment as we are not in possession of the full facts.

“From our position in the ground, which was close to the other goal, we could clearly see an incident had taken place but could not tell why or how it had started.

“We will await the report from Scunthorpe United and the police before commenting and will work with the authorities on this matter.

“Such incidents are very rare and it is unusual for Cobblers supporters to be involved so we are keen to understand what happened. Our fans have a proud reputation and we need to understand fully how this incident occurred.”
