L1: Chesterfield sign Martinez

Chesterfield have signed former Blackpool midfielder Angel Martinez on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old Spaniard has penned a two-year contract at the Proact Stadium.

Boss Dean Saunders said: “We’ve been waiting and waiting to sign him. He’s got good pedigree having played at Espanyol and been capped by Spain at under-21 level.

“He’s good on the ball and he knows the central midfield position. With his experience of English football, I’m sure he’ll make us better.”

Martinez could be involved in the Spireites’ Sky Bet League 1 clash with Shrewsbury on Tuesday.
