Niall Canavan has agreed terms on a two-year deal with Rochdale following his release from the Iron.

His release signaled the end of a seven year stay at Glanford Park, in which the former Republic of Ireland under 21 international made over 150 appearances.

“The offer has been on the table for a while, I’m delighted to be here and excited for the future,” Canavan told Rochdale’s official site.

“I really enjoyed my loan spell here and there is a great bunch of lads here too.  The management and staff have been brilliant with me and the fans too.

“Sometimes when you come to a club everything just fits and that is the case here at Spotland.”

The 24 year old spent time on loan at Spotland towards the end of last season.
