Butler rules out Muldoon, Sharp and Rose moves

Scunthorpe United manager Andy Butler has ruled out moves for Jack Muldoon, Billy Sharp and Danny Rose as the club continues its search for a striker.

Following Saturday’s 2-2 draw with National League strugglers Morecambe, Butler confirmed that while the club is in talks regarding a loan player to strengthen their attack, none of the three experienced forwards will be joining.

Harrogate Town’s Muldoon has been linked with the Iron on several occasions in recent years, while it is understood Doncaster Rovers striker Sharp was interested in the managerial vacancy at Glanford Park when Jimmy Dean was sacked in May 2024.

Butler also dismissed speculation regarding a move for Rose, who currently plays for local rivals Grimsby Town.

“It’s not Jack Muldoon, Danny Rose, or Billy Sharp,” Butler told BBC Radio Humberside.

Iron co-owner Michelle Harness had announced earlier in the week that the club hoped to unveil a loan addition, but Butler revealed the move remains in the balance.

He confirmed the target featured for his current club on Saturday, potentially complicating the swoop.

“It may or may not happen yet,” he added. “I think he actually played today, so we’ll have to wait until we get it through the door.”

The Scunthorpe boss also confirmed that talks regarding a separate loan move for an attacking midfielder have ended.

Butler admitted the club walked away from a deal for the unnamed “number 10” after failing to reach an agreement.

“There were a lot of things we had to agree to for it to happen and we couldn’t tick every box,” he explained.
