Iron boss Graham Alexander has challenged his centre halves to get on the scoresheet more often as the season begins to draw to a close.

David Mirfin scored the winner in a 1-0 win over Bolton on Saturday, his second goal of the campaign, but Alexander believes his three central defenders should have hit the target more this season.

“I don’t think the central defenders (Mirfin, Wallace and Goode) have scored enough this season with the delivery we’ve got,” Alexander said.

“We have a little dig at them now again in a fun way but there is a serious side of it because to be a successful team you have got to have goals from all over the pitch.

“We are one of the highest scoring teams in the country and with our ability all three centre halves can score more goals”.

Murray Wallace has just one league goal to his name this term whilst Charlie Goode, who is currently injured, hasn’t hit the target since September 2015.
