Alexander misses out, but impressive Morris scoops award.

Scunthorpe United manager Graham Alexander has missed out on the SKY Bet League One Manager of the Month award for August. A solitary defeat at Port Vale, which saw Alexander sent to the stands, ended an otherwise excellent opening month for the Iron who currently sit in fifth place with a game in hand.

The accolade went to Bolton boss Phil Parkinson who managed to guide his side to the top of the table after taking thirteen points from the fifteen available.

Bolton were many bookmakers favourites for promotion prior to the start of the season, and given the squad at their disposal, many of whom still command five figure weekly salaries, it’s no real surprise to see them flying high.

Bradford’s Stuart McCall and Gillingham’s Justin Edinburgh were also nominated for the award.

Meanwhile, there was better news in the players category where Iron midfielder Josh Morris scooped the League One Player of the Month award.

Morris has been in breathtaking form since becoming Graham Alexander’s main summer signing and already has six goals and two assists to his name so far this season.

Morris beat off strong competition from Bolton’s former Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing, Millwall striker Steve Morison and Port Vale defender Nathan Smith.
