Alexander delighted with last gasp winner

Iron boss Graham Alexander admitted he could not hide his delight as Matt Crooks fired in a 93rd minute winner to defeat visitors Rochdale 2-1 at Glanford Park.

The game was petering out when Crooks crashed a 25 yard strike home- a goal which sparked wild celebrations in the stands and on the bench.

“I was a little bit embarrassed by own celebration and I apologised to Keith (Hill, Rochdale manager) afterwards because I never planned to do that but the emotion of it all got the better of us all,” Alexander said.

“I am delighted for the players because they have been through the mill in the last five to six weeks and the results could have took the stuffing out of them.

“We had to dig deep to turn around the performances to get wins and use that in the memory bank to remember what we did going forward.

“I am proud of the players and pleased for them because I have been there where nothing goes for you but this cannot be the end of the good story.

“We need to take all the good stuff from tonight, the emotion and the feeling and take that into the next game.”
