Iron boss Graham Alexander would not be drawn on speculation linking assistant manager Chris Lucketti with the vacant manager’s position at Bury, following last night’s 2-1 victory over Bradford City.
Lucketti emerged odds on favourite for the Bury role yesterday, despite the Iron confirming they had not received an approach for their assistant manager.
“At the moment it is just speculation,” Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
“We haven’t heard anything as a club and I haven’t had a chance to speak to Chris because we have been focussing on this game.
“If anything does happen we will deal with it but at the moment we don’t have anything official from Bury.
“I will have a conversation with Chris, because there is a lot of speculation and nothing official yet.”
Alexander admitted that he was aware of Lucketti’s ambition to move into management one day, but hoped that he would stay with the Iron for the time being.
“I have known Chris a long time and I know he has ambitions to one day be a manager but he doesn’t know when that opportunity might arise.
“If it is this time, then we will deal with it but I certainly don’t want to lose Chris.
“He is a fantastic man. He has been brilliant with me for the last five years as my assistant and six years before that as my captain at Preston, so we go back a long way
“I always treat everyone with the respect to make their own way in life. I wouldn’t stop anyone but I want to say it on record that I want Chris to stay with me.”
