Iron boss Russ Wilcox has confirmed his interest in 28-year-old Hull City striker Matty Fryatt, who is out of contract this summer.
At least six clubs have been reported to have lodged an interest in Fryatt – including Nottingham Forest, his former club Leicester City and Sheffield Wednesday, where he enjoyed a loan spell last season.
The news raised eyebrows last week, but Wilcox has likened the situation to the one which saw Paddy Madden drop from the Championship to join Scunthorpe in League Two in January.
“The chairman wants to be really positive”, Wilcox told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
“Names are mentioned all the time and his (Fryatt’s) was one that cropped up. Of course you are going to be interested in a player like Matty Fryatt.
“There will be interest from Championship clubs, we know that. He went to Sheffield Wednesday on loan last season and did really well. I’m sure there will be interest from a dozen others.
“But it was the same with Paddy Madden. A dozen or so clubs from League One showed interest in him and we got him as a League Two club. Never say never, that’s what I say.”
