Jason Demetriou has hailed this seasons Walsall team as the Leicester City of League One, in an interview with BBC Sport.

The Saddlers have flown in League One this season, sitting in 2nd place, a point ahead of 3rd place Wigan with a game in hand, and only 4 points of 1st place Burton Albion.

Demetriou, who has been a regular in the starting lineup this season, joined the Saddlers in the summer and has gone on to impress in a side which has gone under the radar according the to the Cypriot himself.

“They’ve (Leicester) have got great characters and good team spirit. And that’s one of the main things we’ve got here. Added to our ability, our togetherness has been fantastic from the first day and is still strong,”

The defender was baffled by last weekends humbling 3-0 home defeat to Millwall, only their 3rd loss in 14 games since manager Dean Smith departed, adding;

“If we’d come in at half-time two or three up there’d have been no questions asked I had the hump on the way home. But we don’t get too high when we win and we don’t get too low when we lose.”

Walsall will be hoping to bounce back when they take on relegation threatened Crewe Alexandra this weekend.
