United to dedicate match to steelworkers

Iron Chairman Peter Swann has issued a statement suggesting the club will dedicate a forthcoming home match to the town’s steelworkers who are threatened with redundancy.

The statement read: “Hearing of imminent job losses at our very own steelworks here in Scunthorpe has certainly tempered our recent good run of performances on the field.

“This will affect the community and as its football club, we feel showing our support is crucial and we intend to do just that.

“With this in mind, the football club are currently working to arrange for one of our home matches to be dedicated to the steelworkers and their families.

“We had thought of this weekend but we had committed to Prostate Cancer UK, which in itself is important to us and we did not want a shared day.

“It is so important to show our solidarity, so a match completely dedicated to the cause will be arranged in the near future, so we can all show our support.”
