Torps back at York

Iron legend Steve Torpey has returned to York City as youth-team coach seven months after being relieved of his duties by former boss Russ Wilcox.

Torps was replaced as Wilcox’s assistant by another ex Iron, John Schofield at the end of last season but that partnership was short-lived as both men were dismissed in November.

He had previously worked with City’s under-18 players from 2008 to 2013 before being promoted to the first-team fold under Nigel Worthington.

York City chairman Jason McGill said: “We are pleased to welcome Steve Torpey back. His passion is coaching and managing the 16 to 18-year-old age group and we are really delighted he has accepted this role and new challenge at the club.

“Steve has always been very loyal to York City and we are glad he is back as part of the team. This week has presented further challenges to the board with the departure of Richard Cresswell and Jonathan Greening.”
