Robins takes October prize

Mark Robins

Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins has been named the Manager of the Month for October after leading the Iron to victory in five of their six games.

Only an unlucky defeat at leaders Gillingham prevented him from guiding Scunthorpe through a perfect month.

He said: “It’s pleasing to have won the award. It is testament to the players’ performances and the support of the chairman, directors and staff. The fans have been excellent too.

“We picked up a couple of decent results at the start of the month and have just carried on in the same vein. We’re in a reasonable position now, where we can focus and really kick on. We have to carry on moving forward together.”

George Burley, chair of the judging panel put together by sponsors Sky Bet, reckons the Iron are promotion challengers.

He said: Mark has had a great month with Scunthorpe, gaining 15 points and only losing out to promotion challengers Gillingham.

“He is imposing his style of football which he has done in all his managerial jobs. His team are looking serious play-off contenders this season.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman pointed to the form of attacking duo of Paddy Madden and Gary McSheffrey.

He said: “Robins overcame a really tough August and September to kick Scunthorpe’s season into life in October.

“Paddy Madden and Gary McSheffrey’s contributions have been invaluable, and Robins will be looking up the table rather than over his shoulder for the rest of 2015.”
