Iron Chairman Peter Swann has told fans that the club will be in their new stadium next season, in a statement on the club’s official website.
It read: “I am very pleased with our current signings and feel that our proactive approach is paying off.
Not only are we achieving our targets but the message we are delivering to these players and the ones in progress is that this club is ambitious and wants to compete.
We all look forward to the coming weeks and a few more new faces!
The stadium is progressing nicely, with the final two tender companies providing the finishing touches to our requirements. The layout and structure for the potential tenants has meant we have taken a little more time over this process, so we can get it right. ”
This is most important as we secure the long term leases which enable us to fund, build and own our own stadium and I am happy to say these discussions are positive and well on the way to being delivered.
I would have loved to announce these details of who is constructing it sooner, but we need to ensure we have everything covered within the build programme, including the option of playing in the stadium whilst we finish the project. It is not unheard of to complete all bar one stand and then develop that, as we move through the early months of the season. We are only talking a few months extra, but that does give us some breathing space. However the plan is to be completed by the start of the 2016/17 campaign and that is what we are driving all involved towards.
We can get ourselves a temporary access to build it, but we do need the main roundabout to be completed so we can trade and that will be down to highways, who we know are working closely with us, to make this happen as soon as possible.
These are very exciting times for the fans and the Scunthorpe area, so let’s continue to be positive in what is a wonderful project for North Lincolnshire.
We want to challenge for promotion, we want to secure the future of the football club and we will deliver the stadium for next season. “
