Mirfin returns in behind closed doors game with Donny

Iron defender David Mirfin stepped up his recovery from injury by completing 45 minutes in a behind doors fixture against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday.

He was set to be joined by new signings Ivan Toney and Matt Crooks in an effort to build up their fitness.

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph ahead of the match:”People like Mirf will play part of the game as will players who need to get minutes under their belt.

“We know we need everybody from now until the end of the season and it is our responsibility to keep them as sharp as we possibly can and make sure they are ready for when the opportunity arises.

“It will give them a chance to focus on what they do in a game, especially for the new lads as it will give them an opportunity to learn how we want to do things.

“But they fitted in really well on Saturday and it was good to see.”

The game finished 2-2.
