McSheffrey hat-trick in reserve win

Trialist and former Birmingham City striker Gary McSheffrey bagged a second half hat trick as the Iron’s reserves romped to a 4-1 home win over Sheffield Wednesday.

The Iron fielded a strong side including captain Andy Dawson, Andrew Boyce, Luke Waterfall, Etienne Esajas, Matt Sparrow, Paul Hayes, Chris Iwelumo and trialist McSheffrey.

The visitors took the lead through Rhys McCabe, who poked the ball past Severn, but Chris Iwelumo evened things up after the break chipping the ball over the Owls keeper.

Then McSheffrey fired home a penalty after he was felled in the area, before adding his second with a great strike.

McSheffrey added a fourth soon after with a low drive before the Owls hit the bar late on.
