McSheffrey back ahead of Coventry trip

Iron winger Gary McSheffrey will continue his recovery from injury by playing for the development squad against Rotherham at Glanford Park tonight.

McSheffrey has not featured since the 4-0 defeat to Peterborough at the end of November and has undergone surgery on a troublesome knee injury.

Caretaker manager Andy Dawson told the Scunthorpe Telegraph McSheffrey has returned to full training and will step up his recovery ahead of Saturday’s trip to Coventry City.

“Sheffs will be playing in the reserves tonight (Tuesday) which is great for him after being out a few weeks,” Dawson said.

“He is raring to go and buzzing around the place so he will be wanting to get some good minutes under his belt and be ready to go for Saturday if he is needed.”

McSheffrey scored on his return to Coventry last season, firing in an early free kick in a 1-1 draw.

“It is nice for any player to go back to their former club and especially Sheffs who spent the majority of his career there,” Dawson added.

“He had some great times there and it will be a great day for him and everybody else whether you have played there or not.”
