Rory McArdle has been appointed as the new captain of Scunthorpe United, with Murray Wallace expected to continue his role as vice-captain.
Graham Alexander took to social media to announce McArdle as captain on Facebook Live this afternoon.
The new Iron centre-half takes the armband having signed from League One rivals Bradford City earlier this summer. In his five seasons at the club, the 30-year-old was a known leader within the side and he played a huge role in helping them reach the League One playoff final at Wembley last season.
The decision comes as no surprise as it was McArdle who captained the Scunthorpe side in the first pre-season friendly at Glanford Park last week against Sunderland.
Murray Wallace is expected to once again operate as vice-captain having stepped in when former club captain, Stephen Dawson, was unavailable last season.
Wallace has been virtually ever present for the Iron since his permanent arrival from Huddersfield Town back in January 2016. In the last campaign, Wallace played in all 56 of the Iron’s matches and was rewarded with three honours at the club’s end of season awards night, including Player of the Season.
