Laird dropped for Walsall’s remaining fixtures

Iron defender Scott Laird could have played his last game for Walsall after Saddlers’ boss Jon Whitney confirmed he won’t feature in their final two games.

The defender has become a popular figure at the Banks’s Stadium and had said last month that he hoped to make his move to Walsall permanent in the summer.

But that now looks unlikely with Whitney set to leave him out of his squad for tomorrow’s clash with Port Vale as well as the season finale against MK Dons, despite Laird being fit for selection.

“I spoke to Scott on Friday and told him he won’t be involved in the remaining games,” Whitney said.

“I’m going to try and get some of my kids on the bench. I wanted to get Kory Roberts on the bench instead of Lairdy for the Coventry game.

“Lairdy is fine with that. He isn’t my player and they are the decisions I have got to make.”
