Iron set to sign James Perch

Scunthorpe are set to sign former Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest utility man James Perch, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Perch, who can play in defence or midfield, is a free agent having made seven appearances for QPR last season in the Championship.

The 32 year old has spent the summer on trial at Championship side Wigan, but is expected to put pen to paper on a deal at Glanford Park ahead of Saturday’s League One opener with Coventry City.
