Hasselbaink demands improvement when Northampton and Scunthorpe meet in the League

Northampton Town boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has demanded an improved performance from his players when they take on Scunthorpe United for the third time in 15 days this weekend.

Scunthorpe dumped the Cobblers out the FA Cup with a narrow 1-0 First Round replay victory on Tuesday, but the two sides will face again at Sixfields on Saturday with Sky Bet League 1 points at stake.

The Iron progressed to the next round courtesy of an excellent Hakeeb Adelakun strike, but could have been out of sight at half time, which infuriated the visitors’ boss.

“It’s about how you respond after a defeat and it’s a moment for a team to show their character,” he told the press.

“Scunthorpe are a top team and we’ve seen that.

“The first half on Tuesday night wasn’t acceptable from our point of view but in the second half we were better.

“We want to grow as a team and we want to keep improving.

“The performance at Oxford was good but we don’t just want to replicate that, we want to better it.”
