United have made midfielder Stephen Dawson their first signing of the summer.

The 29-year-old signs on a free transfer and pens a two-year deal which will start on July 1, with the option of a further year in the club’s favour after turning down a deal at Rochdale.

Dawson told the Official Website: “As soon as I knew the intent of the manager and who he is bringing in and everything that is taking place in the next couple of years in terms of the new stadium and new facilities, it was something I couldn’t turn down.

“The development was a big part of it and what the Chairman is doing. The team didn’t have a great year last year, but it was one of those things and the manager has made it clear who he is bringing in, how many he is bringing in and the quality of the players who will be coming in.”

Iron-Bru.com revealed that Dawson was the player that had agreed terms with the Iron on our twitter page yesterday evening.
