Scunthorpe boss Nick Daws has stated that he would be delighted if the club could agree terms with Nottingham Forest to bring Ryan Yates back to the club next season.
Yates impressed in a five month loan spell at Glanford Park last term and Forest boss Aitor Karanka is said to be mulling over whether to send the 20 year old out on loan again to help his development.
“Ryan was incredible over that period of time. He scored against Peterborough and hit the ground running”, Daws told the press.
“I describe him as a sponge really and what I mean by that is he is seeking information and seeking ways to improve and better himself every minute of the day.
“He’s really easy to work with. He’s so coachable, it’s incredible. Ryan is a player of exceptional potential and if we can get him back here, I’d be delighted.”
Daws also admitted the Iron are looking to strengthen their striking options and will be forced to look for a goalkeeper following the long term injury to Matt Gilks as they look to improve on last season’s 5th placed finish. “It’s quite simple. Defensively, we remain in a strong position”, Daws continued.
“Central midfield is an area we definitely need to strengthen and we only retained Lee Novak and Kyle Wootton in terms of central strikers.
“I think the central spine of the team is where we’ll be looking to do our recruitment. If a player becomes available that is going to improve our team, I know from recent history that as a club that is what we will look to do.”
