Alexander waiting to hear from Newcastle regarding Toney

Graham Alexander has confirmed to BBC Radio Humberside that the club have been in dialog with Newcastle United regarding a loan move for Ivan Toney, who impressed in a five month stay at Glanford Park last term.

The Iron touched base with the Premier League newcomers with regards to the strikers’ availability earlier in the summer and Alexander admitted he would be interested in a similar deal should the opportunity arise this term.

“I don’t think he has signed for anybody so I am always interested in good players,” Alexander said.

“I haven’t heard anything in the last few weeks from his representatives or his club or anything like that.

“They wanted Ivan to be on board with them for the majority of pre season, to really have a look at him and cast their eyes over him and you can understand that.

“If anything was going to change they will be in contact.”

Toney is currently back with his parent club for pre season and scored in Newcastle’s U23 squad friendly with Darlington earlier this week.
