Alexander says Ojo shoots too much despite screamer against Northampton

Scunthorpe boss Graham Alexander believes Funso Ojo has been shooting too much, despite the Belgian scoring a 25 yard wonder goal in the 2-2 draw with Northampton on Saturday.

Ojo’s goal was one of the only bright moments in a dismal performance against the League One strugglers, having picked up the ball on half way before lashing home from outside the box.

However the Iron chief has suggested the former PSV midfielder is trying to force a shooting opportunity at times, when a pass would be a better option.

“I think Funso has been shooting too much at times,” Alexander told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

“I spoke to him about this and I think he has been forcing it a lot of the time because his actual shots on target is pretty low.

“He is a very intelligent footballer and the opportunity to shoot will appear when it is right and not for it to be the first thought in his head.

“The crowd give him a lot of encouragement to shoot but I think he had made better decisions recently.

“He is making the right pass at the right time and like Saturday when the shot is on he took it.

“It was naturally there for him. It was a fantastic strike, a great goal and I was really pleased for him.”
